Funscript: Syncing Your Device with the Video

If your idea of interactive adult devices is still limited to simply switching between “low, medium, and high,” or using vibrations at a fixed frequency, you may have missed one of the most interesting technologies to emerge in recent years: Funscript.

Put simply, the device stops doing its own thing. However the person on screen moves, the device on you follows, in sync with the picture.

Think of It as a “Motion Subtitle”

The easiest way to understand Funscript is to think of it as a subtitle file for movement.

A regular subtitle file tells the video player, “At 1:05, display this line of text.” A .funscript file tells your hardware, “At 1:05, move to this position, at this speed, and to this depth.”

So the rhythm, the pauses, even small twitches can show up in what you feel.

Get the hardware ready

To use Funscript, you first need a device that supports it. Brands usually have their own getting-started guide for connecting and loading files. I’ll leave those steps to their guides.

The one I use is The Handy. It costs more than most, but I find the connection and playback closest to something you can just pick up and use. (Full transparency: this is a referral link. Funscript is an open format. If you are comfortable with more technical setups, Intiface Central and buttplug.io can sit in the middle, and you can even hook up multi-axis devices such as the OSR2 and SR6. The barrier is higher.

Then get the Funscript files

Once the device is ready, you can look for .funscript files to play with the video.

Communities such as EroScripts are a good place to start. People talk hardware and setup there, and creators share a lot of Funscript files.

I also include .funscript files with my own work:

• Silver members and above: You can download the full video and its .funscript file together.
• Free members: Some of the works I occasionally release for free also come with a .funscript file. If you just got a device, you can download one of the free releases and try the sync for yourself.

Later releases may include Funscript files named with _speedlimit, _filler, or both. The differences are in Why do the Funscript files in the download have different names?.

Then play in OriPlayer

When the hardware and the files are ready, there are a few ways to play. If you use The Handy, I recommend trying OriPlayer first. Right now it only connects to this brand.

It plays the videos and Funscript files you already have, and keeps The Handy in sync with the picture. Grant it access to the whole folder that holds those files, and it builds a library: matching Funscript files, different resolutions, and alternate versions of the same title. Then you can play.

If you prefer the original flow, you can still connect The Handy through Handyverse or the official app, then load your video file and Funscript file by hand. They will play in sync the same way.

A tip for local playback: If you’d rather not use the browser, or you want the files sorted more carefully, a local player such as ScriptPlayer works too.

Usually, you just put the video and the Funscript file in the same folder. If you prefer not to mix them together, you can also configure separate folders for your videos and Funscript files.

Just make sure the filenames match exactly. For example, video.mp4 and video.funscript. The player will automatically find and pair them.
